Rhinoceros

I love absurdist theater and one of my favorite plays is Rhinoceros by Ionesco. A parable on blind fanaticism, it is about a town where the people are one by one transforming into rhinoceroses. A friend of mine was staging a reading of this play as an analogy for Trumpism, and I knew I needed to be involved in some capacity. I practiced and practiced some origami and tried multiple sheets of paper to get the right texture. In the book the description of the rhino skin is “green and leathery”, and found a suitable handmade paper to use as a backdrop. The final animation made for a fun little teaser for the production.
